Polyester Tape for Laminated Glass: High Temp Autoclave & Vacuum Masking Solution

The High Cost of Interlayer Resin Bleed in Glass Processing

During high-pressure autoclave cycles (135°C–150°C at 10–13 bar) or EVA vacuum heating box runs, molten interlayer resins (EVA, PVB, or SGP) liquefy under vacuum draw. Without high-integrity edge masking, molten resin bleeds onto glass borders, puncturing expensive vacuum silicone blankets and forcing workers into hours of manual razor-scraping.

High-temperature Green Polyester (PET) Tapes coated with high-crosslink silicone pressure-sensitive adhesives provide the ultimate edge-containment barrier. Engineered for dimensional stability up to 200°C, PET masking tape holds vacuum seal lines perfectly while peeling off glass surfaces in a single piece without leaving silicone ghosting.

1. Laminated Glass Interlayer Processing Matrix

Interlayer Film Type Autoclave / Oven Temp Vacuum Pressure Range Recommended PET Tape Model Key Functional Result
EVA (Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate) 130°C – 145°C -0.095 to -0.099 MPa Green PET Tape (Model 5080) Stops low-viscosity EVA edge overflow
PVB (Polyvinyl Butyral) 135°C – 150°C 11 – 13 bar (Autoclave) High-Tack Blue PET Tape Resists high hydraulic autoclave pressure
SGP (SentryGlas® Ionoplast) 160°C – 175°C 12 – 14 bar (High Load) Heavy Duty Green PET (0.09mm) High shear strength against stiff ionoplast resin
Smart Tintable PDLC Film 120°C – 130°C -0.090 MPa (Gentle) Low-Static Clear/Blue PET Tape Protects ITO conductive layers during lamination

2. 3 Critical Reasons Glass Factories Specify Huilink PET Tape

A. High-Tensile Polyester Film Prevents Edge Wrinkling

Under vacuum de-airing, cheap masking tapes stretch and form micro-wrinkles along glass borders, creating air channels where molten resin leaks through. Huilink bi-axially oriented PET film maintains high dimensional tension across 180°C heat cycles.

B. High-Crosslink Silicone Adhesive Means Zero Glass Ghosting

Removing tape from large architectural glass panes shouldn't require solvent cleaning. Our crosslinked silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive chemically anchors to the PET backing, ensuring 100% clean peeling off float, low-E, and tempered glass surfaces.

C. Chemical Inertness Against Molten EVA & PVB Solvents

When plasticizers inside PVB films melt, they attack weak acrylic adhesives. Huilink silicone adhesive formulation is chemically inert, resisting plasticizer migration and maintaining 550 gf/25mm peel adhesion throughout the 4-hour autoclave hold.

3. Three Best Practices for Glass Edge Masking SOP

  1. Wipe Edge Glass with IPA: Prior to tape application, remove glass cutting oils and edge-grinding coolant residue using 99% Isopropyl Alcohol to ensure maximum initial tack.
  2. Apply Uniform Edge Overlap: Maintain a consistent 10mm to 15mm overlap along the glass face perimeter. Use a rubber roller to seal the tape edge firmly against the glass.
  3. Peel Warm at a 180-Degree Angle: Remove the tape immediately after unloading glass from the autoclave while the glass is still warm (approx. 45°C–60°C) for the smoothest 1-piece peel.
